Texas A&M University Press Releases Anthology On Mexican American Life

"Nepantla Familias" features the essays, poems and short stories of living 'in between different worlds' of Mexico and America.

Texas A&M University Press has released Nepantla Familias: An Anthology of Mexican American Literature on Families in between Worlds edited by Sergio Troncoso, a literary collection of essays, poems, and short stories which address the concept of “Nepantla” (middle ground or borderland) through a Mexican American lens.

Troncoso is the author of A Peculiar Kind of Immigrant’s Son and other award-winning books. A Fulbright scholar, Troncoso is a resident faculty member of the Yale Writers’ Workshop and current president of the Texas Institute of Letters.

“Anyone who has left their home and tried to find a new one in a strange place — at times welcoming and at times hostile — they should find themselves in the work of Mexican American writers exploring Nepantla,” Troncoso said.

The book has received a starred review from Kirkus Reviews, which calls it, “A deeply meaningful collection that navigates important nuances of identity.”
