Kent and Becky Corser have donated $100,000 to establish the Nicole Alane Corser Memorial Scholarship in honor of their daughter.
Kent and Becky Corser, along with family and friends, have donated $100,000 to establish the Nicole Alane Corser Memorial Scholarship in honor of their daughter. This scholarship is intended to assist incoming freshmen in paying for their education at Texas A&M.
The one-year scholarship will be awarded based on academic achievement, extra-curricular activities and financial need. Five $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to incoming freshmen at Texas A&M with a preference for those who graduate from Taylor High School in Katy and major in engineering.
Family members say Nicole was 17 and attending Taylor High School in Katy. She had a passion for school, golf, friends, music and was a caring, giving friend to all. She had already decided to attend Texas A&M and was contemplating engineering, like her dad, or vet school.
After losing her on November 27, 2007, Nicole’s family thought about how they could remember her and help others at the same time. With her passion for school and desire to attend Texas A&M, they thought an endowment in Nicole’s name would be the best way to memorialize her. The endowment was set up through A&M in less than a day. Friends and family from around the world have contributed.
The Texas A&M Foundation helps former students, friends, corporations and other non-profit organizations direct contributions to specific academic and leadership programs. Its asset managers ensure that endowments like the Nicole Alane Corser Memorial Scholarship retain or grow in value over time so that Aggies will benefit well into the future.
Donors may direct their gifts, large or small, to an existing scholarship fund or design and name their own scholarship. Scholarships can be set up as endowments, which are designed to provide funds in perpetuity. Donors may also choose to fund a non-endowed scholarship, in which the gift provides the scholarship stipend on a one-time basis.
