Texas A&M Names Bill Kibler Vice President For Student Affairs
Experienced student affairs professional returns to Aggieland.
General (Ret.) Mark A. Welsh III, President of Texas A&M University, has tabbed longtime higher education professional Bill Kibler, Ph.D., as the next vice president for the Division of Student Affairs.
Kibler served in various student affairs roles at Texas A&M from 1980 to 2004, and most recently, he has been serving as the acting president at the College of Southern Nevada since July 2024.

“I’m proud of the work the Division of Student Affairs does each day to support student success both inside and outside the classroom,” Welsh said. “I’m confident that Dr. Kibler’s four decades of experience in higher education leadership and student development and administration will be invaluable as we continue to provide exceptional assistance and opportunities for all students.”
The Texas A&M Division of Student Affairs is comprised of 13 departments dedicated to providing exceptional programs, services and facilities that create a supportive campus environment where students feel a sense of community and have the opportunity to develop as leaders.1
In his previous 24-year stint at Texas A&M, Kibler held senior-level administrative roles in the Division of Student Affairs, serving under Vice Presidents Dr. John J. Koldus III and Dr. J. Malon Southerland.
“It will be a pinnacle experience and a singular honor to return to Texas A&M University and join the Student Affairs team,” Kibler stated. “I have spent my entire career devoted to student success and assuring the highest quality student experiences possible. No place does that better than Texas A&M University. The exceptional and talented staff and students in the Division of Student Affairs assure that the unique experiences and the success of our students continue to be an enduring legacy in Aggieland. It will be my honor to work alongside them.”
Kibler will begin his duties on Aug. 1, replacing Interim Vice President Tom Reber. A 43-year student affairs administrator at Texas A&M, Reber is scheduled to retire this year.
Kibler started his career in the Dean of Students’ Office at the University of Florida, where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics and his Master of Education and Specialist in Education in Counselor Education with an emphasis in Student Affairs Administration. He later earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Administration from Texas A&M.
He served as the vice president for student affairs at Mississippi State University from 2004-2014, and he is president emeritus at Sul Ross State University in Alpine, where he served as president from 2014 to 2020.
Kibler has earned numerous awards and recognitions in the fields of academic integrity and student affairs, captured the Association of Former Students Distinguished Achievement Award for Individual Student Relations in 2002, was a Fish Camp namesake in 1994, and a Transfer Camp namesake in 1992.
He served as a founding board member and president of the Association for Student Conduct Administration and the International Center for Academic Integrity and has authored several book chapters and articles on academic integrity, student conduct, judicial affairs and student affairs administration.
He and his wife, Pam, have seven children: Ben ’98 and his wife Karen ’00, Zach, Kurt, Alissa, Austin, Alarian and Gracie. His two grandchildren are Brooke ’26 and Luke ’29. In addition, the Kiblers were foster parents for more than 25 years in two states and provided foster care to 40 children.
