Texas A&M Professor On ‘The Rhetorical Genius Of Donald Trump’
Professor of Communication Jennifer Mercieca analyzes how Trump uses language to grow his following and criticize his opposition.
Jennifer Mercieca, a professor of communication in the College of Liberal Arts, is an expert in political rhetoric — how politicians use language to persuade others. Mercieca said Trump practices demagoguery by using various rhetorical strategies.
In her new book “Demagogue for President: The Rhetorical Genius of Donald Trump,” Mercieca identifies and analyzes the strategic language Trump uses in speeches, media appearances and on social media. She said he uses these strategies to “increase distrust, polarization and frustration.”
