Texas A&M University’s Silver Taps, one of the school’s oldest traditions, will be held Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 10:30 p.m. to honor two students who recently passed away.
Honored will be Erin Noel Novak, a graduate student in ecosystem science and management from Houston who died Oct. 9, and Omari ZaReiq Loydrake, an industrial distribution major from League City.
Texas A&M’s Traditions Council recently announced that after switching to a virtual format for the fall, Silver Taps ceremonies can now be held in-person at Academic Plaza.
The decision was made after a thorough review of COVID-19 data collected over the last two months by the Silver Taps Committee, consisting of Traditions Council, Student Assistance Services and the Department of Student Activities. University officials had previously decided to hold the event virtually due to health and safety concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Protocol for Silver Taps attendees will be adjusted to comply with health and safety guidelines, according to Traditions Council.
The event will be broadcast on Texas A&M’s YouTube channel. Follow Traditions Council social media for more information.
Silver Taps is held the first Tuesday of each month from September-April, if necessary, following a student’s death. It is one of the final tributes held for any current professional, graduate or undergraduate student who has died during the year.
